Ron Tucker

1st Vice President

Ron had a US Navy 22-year career, attaining rank of Signalman Chief (initiated in 1990) and then in 1992 commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program into the Surface Warfare Officer pipeline.  He attained rank of Lieutenant and retired after 22 years of honorable service.  He is a Plankowner USS TICONDEROGA (July 1982 through October 1993) where he served as Signalman Third Class.  Other ships in his active-duty enlisted career include WACCAMAW (T-AO-109), NIMITZ (CVN-68), FRANK CABLE (AS-40), ILLUSIVE (MSO-448), and ROBERT G BRADLEY (FFG-49).  And during his officer career DEYO (DD-989) Electrical Officer, PUGET SOUND (AD-38) First Division Officer, OAK HILL (LSD-51) CIC Officer and A Division Officer, and LA MOURE COUNTY (LST-1179) First Lieutenant.

He then had a 21-year career in DoD Civil Service, 4 years with Military Sealift Command as Force Protection Officer, and 17 years with Naval Aviation Systems Command (NAVAIR) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, MD.  Those years at NAVAIR were in electronic countermeasures to defeat attacking missile threats to the various platforms of the USN and USMC aviation fleet through sensor and countermeasure technologies.  His final three years of government service were as Deputy Program Manager (GS-14) for the laser countermeasure program, DoN LAIRCM (AN/AAQ-24). 

In preparation for his retirement, Ron used his extensive ship driving experiences, studied and attained USCG license as a 100-ton, near coastal Captain.  He currently works on the Charleston, SC harbor as a tour boat captain (aka Captain Ron), part time, living on his 48-foot motor yacht in his hometown of Charleston.

Ron enjoys his retirement through community service at the VFW Post 445 and American Legion Post 147, where he rides his 2003 Heritage Softail with the Legion Riders.  He holds certification as an Advanced Open Water diver, plays pickleball, maintains his boat, and travels.
