Brett served on the USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47) from 1993 to 1996 as the Command Chaplain and later served with the Marine Corps as Battalion Chaplain with a tour in Iraq.

He is presently serving as a pastor at a church in Arizona. His wife Jeri works as a nurse and two of his four sons are serving on active duty in the military.
